The term Kyoshi is a “Shogo” or title. These are typically honorific and refer specifically to teaching titles.

In empty hand arts Kyoshi typically refers to someone who understands the principles of the system. This is typically someone in a teaching position above 6th dan. The term Kyoshi is not widely used and is reserved for only the very highest teachers.

In sword arts it refers to those who have practiced and succeeded to show the principle of the sword and have excellent knowledge.
